Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how chickenspeaks ("we", "us", or "our"), operated under Black and Gold Feather Lab ("bgfeatherlab"), collects, uses, and discloses your information when you use our service. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

2. Spoken Voice Data Ephemerality (Critical Privacy Guarantee)

🛡️ Ephemeral Audio Clause: Your spoken voice recordings uploaded to our backend for speech-to-text (STT) evaluation are processed ephemerally. They are immediately streamed to Deepgram API for transcription, and are NOT permanently archived, stored, or saved on our servers. The raw audio files are discarded instantly after transcription processing.

3. Information We Collect

When you use our Service, we may collect the following categories of information:

  • Account Information: Your email address and unique user identifier provided during signup/login via Supabase Auth.
  • Usage Information: Completed roleplay session statistics, scores, review schedules, and saved phrase chunks.
  • Billing Data: Subscription status and purchase history managed through Lemon Squeezy. We do not collect or store credit card numbers locally.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use the browser's Local Storage to save user-specific preferences to provide a seamless app experience. These preferences include:

  • Your ElevenLabs API key and Voice ID (if using BYOK).
  • Last selected target language and native language settings.
  • Selected default OpenAI voices.

Since local storage is kept in your own web browser, we do not have direct access to your local keys unless they are transmitted during audio synthesis requests.

5. Text-to-Speech Audio Caching

To improve performance and reduce latency during practice sessions, chickenspeaks temporarily caches AI-generated text-to-speech (TTS) audio files on Cloudflare R2 cloud storage. Please be aware of the following:

  • Standard voices (OpenAI TTS): Audio files are cached using an anonymized hash of the spoken text and voice name. These files may be accessible via a hashed URL on our CDN. We recommend avoiding inputting sensitive personal information in custom scenario text fields.
  • Personal voice clones (ElevenLabs BYOK): Audio files generated using your own ElevenLabs voice are stored in a private, user-scoped path and are only accessible via short-lived presigned URLs (valid for 5 minutes).
  • Retention: Cached audio files are automatically deleted after a maximum of 180 days via our storage lifecycle policy.
  • Your spoken recordings: Raw audio you record during speaking practice is never stored. It is streamed directly to Deepgram for transcription and discarded immediately (see Section 2).

6. Third-Party Service Providers

We share data with trusted third-party providers only to execute the Service:

  • Supabase: For authentication services and cloud database storage.
  • Deepgram: For high-precision speech-to-text audio transcription.
  • Gemini / OpenAI: For scenario text generation, translations, and text-to-speech audio synthesis.
  • Lemon Squeezy: Our merchant of record for payment processing and billing.

7. Refund Policy

💸 7-Day Refund Guarantee: If you subscribed to chickenspeaks Pro and have used 3 or fewer practice sessions within 7 days of your purchase, you are eligible for a full refund. To request a refund, use the "Check Refund Eligibility" button in the Settings modal, or contact us at support@bgfeatherlab.com with your account email and order information. Refunds are processed within 5–10 business days via your original payment method.

Sessions used are counted automatically from your training log. Our system verifies usage at the time of your refund request.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures (SSL/HTTPS, Supabase RLS row policies, backend signature checks) to protect your account. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
